David Leo became a survivor when his son Justin, a Girard, OH Police Officer was shot and killed responding to a domestic call on 10/21/17. Along with his wife Pat, they founded the Officer Justin Leo Scholarship Foundation that has awarded $20,000 annually to Officer Leo’s alma mater, Girard High School to enable future generations of Girard graduates to continue Officer Leo’s ‘pay it forward’ legacy.

David and Pat have also donated $220,000 to the YSU Foundation and have established scholarships in perpetuity in Officer Justin Leo’s name in Criminal Justice; Education, and Athletics with preference being given to graduates of Girard High School.

David is a retired Middle School Principal and has served the past 25 years as the Scholarship Chair for the Trumbull County Wolves Club (an Italian Service Organization) that annually awards scholarships to students in Trumbull County.
