Angela McDowell became a police widow on August 24, 2001 when her husband, Terry McDowell of the Whitehall Police Department, was shot and killed while serving a traffic citation with his partner, Eric Brill who was critically wounded during this tragic incident. Angela and Terry have two children Seth and Taylor. Seth has followed in his father’s footsteps and is now in law enforcement and Taylor is pursuing a career in Social work. With the outpouring of support Angela received during this tragic time in her life, she vowed to pay it forward and was the founding member of the organization Get Behind The Badge, an organization dedicated to alleviate the immediate financial burden on families who have a loved one killed in the line-of-duty. Angela has been involved with Ohio COPS since the beginning of her journey into returning to some normalcy in her life and has dedicated herself to helping others in any way that she can. Angela’s mission is to show others they are not alone in their journey and provide support and guidance into finding a way to live life through grief.
