THE MISSION OF OHIO C.O.P.S.
A 501 (c)(3) organization
Ohio Concerns of Police Survivors is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. We fall under the federal umbrella of National C.O.P.S. We do have our own state tax employee ID number and are incorporated as a non-profit organization within the state of Ohio. We operate solely by donations. All donations are tax deductible according to the law.
Ohio C.O.P.S. operates as a peer support network for survivors of line-of-duty death according to federal criteria. Our long-term goals are many. Our primary goal is to be there for all survivors on a day-to-day basis, assisting them with anything they need. Many times, knowing there are others out there who truly understand what it is like to lose an officer in the line of duty will help begin the healing process. This journey takes a lifetime. Everyone grieves differently and within our network, we have spouses, children, parents, significant others, siblings…someone for everyone. And that is our goal, to help one another survive the journey.
Another one of our goals is to be able to offer financial support to survivors. There is great cost involved in getting new survivors to Washington, D.C. to honor their newly fallen officer. Our wishes are to one day be able to assist with these costs.
Another area we would like to be able to offer assistance is the hands-on programs offered by National C.O.P.S. These programs bring survivors together for a long weekend where amazing things happen. There is the C.O.P.S. Kid’s Program, the Parent’s Retreat, Spouse’s Getaway, Outward Bound, and the Sibling Retreat. Some truly amazing things happen at these retreats. Friendships are made, lifelong bonds are made, and hope for the future is found.
These programs cost $100.00 and travel expenses. One day, we hope to able to send all of our survivors to these programs and have their fees paid for by Ohio C.O.P.S.
